Fatburgers

Fatburgers is a nostalgic hamburger stand located on the strip close to the MGM Grand (just a little north on the same side of the strip). They are open 24 hours, which is how we came to eat there. Las Vegas strip and casinos may be awake all night, but many of the restaurants keep the same hours as equivalent restaurants in other cities, especially on weekdays. After arriving on Wednesday night, we found several restaurants closed by the time we were checked in and ready for something to eat around 10PM. Lots of fast food places were still open, but we really wanted something more than McDonalds or Subway.

We found Fatburgers and, even though this is a burger joint, it ain't McDonalds. These are very fat juicy burgers just like the name says (the fries and onion rings are pretty good as well.) The interior looks like an old diner or burger stand with really good oldies music playing on a jukebox. We ate listening to the music while sitting on bar stools at a counter that looked out at the strip. And talking about the atmosphere!...The moment we walked in we heard Elvis singing "A Little Less Conversation" and we, along with half the place, started singing along to the chorus.

The service is really good too. The place was pretty busy and we still received our burgers in just a few minutes. All were freshly made, hot off the grill, and very very juicy. They have three sizes of burgers to choose from, so even if you aren't super hungry for one of their "fatburgers", they have a small one known as a baby fat. And if you have an enormous appetite, they have a really large 1/2 lb burger known as a Kingburger. In addition to burgers fries and onion rings, they have chicken sandwiches, and what burger stand would be complete without shakes and root beer floats?

Oh, and price. Reasonable, especially for the sizes and quality. We got a burger deal with one of the fatburgers, fries and a drink for around $8. My sister and her husband had eaten earlier, so they weren't very hungry. They split one of the fatburger deals and ordered an extra drink. The person serving us was really accommodating and gave them an extra empty plate since he knew they were splitting it. If you have a lighter appetite, splitting one of the deals is a good bargain.

I would definitely eat here again, and would recommend it to anyone. The atmosphere is very casual with music playing that I can't imagine anyone would have an argument against. And since they are open 24hrs, you won't have a problem with finding them available when you are hungry. However, you might want to keep in mind that they were fairly steady when we were there between 10 and 11PM, so I would guess they probably get busy at lunch and dinner. Everyone needs to experience Fatburger at least once in their lifetime. If you don't eat beef, don't worry; have a turkey burger or a chicken sandwich, or even an egg sandwich. All of the sandwiches are made to order, and the taste is mouthwatering. You can choose from a variety of burgers, i.e. Baby Fat or the Kingburger. Then you choose your toppings, which range from bacon, tomatoes, and pickles to a fried egg (which is surprisingly good). You can then choose fat dinner fries or skinny fries. Then choose your beverages. Go for the milkshake. They make the milkshakes using real hand-scooped ice cream. It’s a rich drink worth the extra calories. While you wait for them to prepare your meal, you can listen to music on the jukebox. They will call your name when your meal is ready, and you go pick up your food on the orange plastic tray.

This place is always full no matter what the time, but well worth it. It’s a little more expensive than your average fast-food place but well worth it. Plus, they accept all major credit cards. Even people who don’t eat burgers normally rave about the experience and the quality of food.

If you don't mind paying for a fast-food hamburger meal for 8 bucks, do try Fatburger. Burgers are huge and tasty. I love their veggie burger. If you're hungry for some burgers and tired of McD's, I would recommend going to the Fatburger.
