Colibri
As a foodie, I did a lot of research on restaurants before traveling, and I selected this restaurant before arriving in Barcelona based on positive reviews in one of my food magazines.
I could not recommend this restaurant more to someone who really enjoys well-prepared, well-presented food. The service was excellent, attentive but not overdone, and despite my terrible Spanish, they were extremely accommodating. The food was fantastic, with fresh and creative ingredients, some locally sourced. The wine selection was great (Catalan, Spanish, and other!) and were also well priced (at least by American standards, where wine is overpriced!). Do start with some cava.
I eat out a lot, at top restaurants around the world, and I must admit that this one will rank towards the top, mostly for the food quality.
They seem to have moved locations as of late, but the atmosphere is still very romantic.

Our night at Colibri was one of the best dining
experiences I have ever had. The restaurant was very
quaint and romantic, holding only seven or eight tables. I
believe we were the only non-locals that night, but we
felt just as welcomed. Our server was very friendly
and attentive. He went out of his way to explain
Colibri's most unique menu. We were told that the
chef buys all of the ingredients for that evening's
menu at the morning markets to ensure quality and
freshness. We were also given several generous chef's
tastings. The atmosphere is very romantic, even
though the room is rather small. Our fellow diners
seemed to be immersed in their own conversations
and companions. Our meal was phenomenal, from the
delicious cava to our decadent chocolate dessert. We
still talk about our night at Colibri!
