Roadside cafes

Jamaica is the only country I have been in that I liked everything I ate. One of the best dishes is jerked pork, or chicken, goat or beef. This highly seasoned, almost dehydrated food is superb, and I recommend buying it from roadside vendors or cafes. The most memorable breakfast I have had was on the road between Kingston and Port Antonio. It was in a cafe with no walls overlooking the surf, and we had what the Jamaicans call a workman's breakfast; jerked meat; aki, the flower from a tree fruit that looks much like scrambled eggs fried with various vegetables and sausage, and breadfruit.

On another occasion I stopped at a small cafe and tried king fish. I still don't know what we would call it, but it was the most dense fish steak I have ever had, much like a lean beef steak.
