Kadoura Restaurant

Alexandria is famous for its seafood. Any visit to Alex must include one trip to a local seafood restaurant, and Kadoura is a prefect place. It is a truly local restaurant, you won't see many foreigners, and the food is cheap and wonderful. You will be able to get a huge meal of salads, appetizers, and fish for about $6 a person. To get there walk down the Corniche a ways past Orabi square towards Fort Qaitbey. Kadoura will be on your left about 2 blocks before the Fish Market and Chicken Tikka restaurants. You should see the sign, and all the locals know it, so just ask.

When you arrive, you will not sit down right away, it is customary to go chose your meal first. You will be shown a large selection of fish, crabs, shrimp, and calamari. The chef speaks a little English, and should be able to explain the fish to you. It is best not to order seperate portions for each person, but to order a mass amount of food, then share. We had six people and ate a half a kilo of shrimp, a half kilo of calamari, and 4 fish. That was plenty. You will have to option of getting your seafood either fried or grilled, and beware that all fish will come whole. The shrimp are best grilled, while the calamari is absolutely amazing fried, in my opinion the best thing there. The chef will tell you which fish is best grilled and which is best fried. Sea bass is wonderful grilled, while the tiny Red Smelt is best fried. I highly recommend you get at least two fillets. They are grilled with tomatoes and onions. Absolutely delicious. After you choose your seafood, you will be sat and then served a bunch of salads, baba ghanoush, hummos, and pickled vegetables. All this comes with the seafood, so don't think they are trying to push food on you. Your fish will also come with some rice.

All in all Kadoura is a great place for a filling lunch or dinner of high quality seafood. It is very affordable and the waiters are all extremely friendly. They will be so happy to have foreigners and will want to make sure you have the best dinning experience possible.
