Cafe Thirty-A is a beautiful, Florida-style home that appears to be casual in style with a wide front veranda and an outdoor deck. Once inside, you'll see that white linen tablecloths and the impeccable service push the restaurant's ranking up to casual/elegant, if there is such a thing.
Cafe Thirty-A's claim to fame is based on several things. First, they have a martini menu as long as your arm and a wine list of nearly 200. A "French Kiss," martini sounded interesting, but not being a martini person, I passed. The ingredients listed were Stoli Oranj Vodka, Splash of Lillet, Lemon Twist. Toppings include everything from caviar to the typical olive.
Another thing that sets Cafe Thirty-A apart from other restaurants is its rotisserie/wood burning oven and grill.
If you've never had fresh seafood prepared on a wood burning grill, you need to try it. Something about the wood adds a unique flavor.
I did feel the menu was a bit limited and definitely not the place to take a finicky eater. If your partner is the type that has to be able to pronounce an entree to order it, you'd be better off somewhere else.
Luckily, there was one item my finicky husband could warm up to -- the grilled center cut tenderloin black angus beef with danish bleu cheese granitee, smashed red potatoes, and porcini mushrooms.
I'm a little more experimental in my dining habits, so, urged to do so by a friend, I ordered the appetizer of Georgia Quail with grits and sage fritters. Sounds odd, I know, especially to a Southerner like me. What can I say, the locals always know best -- it was divine!
Next came the pan seared free range chicken breast with red pepper and corn risotto. It satisfied my desire to try something new and, as it turned out, was very tasty.
The menu changes seasonaly to take advantage of the freshest seafood and vegetables and there's always a nightly special dreamed up by the creative chef.
If I lived in the area, I would consider Cafe Thirty-A a "special occasion" treat, not a place you'd visit on a weekly basis.
