Description: Such a shame…this restaurant held so much promise but let us down
The Back Porch grill is right on Lake Hamilton and is not normally open on a Sunday but did so this Sunday as it was memorial weekend. I think this was their downfall, as it was unorganized and poorly staffed leading to long waits and disgruntled customers.
On arriving, the entrance to Back porch grill was through a car park or modern apartments building and down an unattractive stairway into the front door but as the restaurant itself looked nice we chose to stay. The main steak grill in the center point in the restaurant so you can watch the food being cooked.
We requested the back porch seating as this was on the lake and with the setting sun made for a pretty setting. The main restaurant was quite big and noisy and not quite so appealing. Also whilst the grill was a cool addition it made the interior smoky.
We were told we would have a wait so we holed up at the bar and enjoyed a couple of wines and people watching.
Time passed by and still no sign of being seated (an hour and a half) so we eventually told the staff we would sit anywhere as we were beyond starving now.
They sat us close to the bar and the waitress needed up being our bar server who was already stretched beyond capacity just running the bar solo. Another thirty minutes later and we had our appetizer but no bread and no cutlery and no one to take our food order. it’s a shame as the Avocado fries we started with held promise of a good meal to come… but as this wasn’t materializing and it was now 2 hours since entering the restaurant we decided to leave.
They compensated us one glass of wine but it really didn’t make up for the poor level of service and customer care we experienced.
