The Walnut Tree

The Walnut Tree is an award winning pub worth a visit, if you can find it. It is located in Fawley, within twenty minutes drive from High Wycombe on B roads and undesignated single track lanes. Dual bars open off the entry, and a restaurant is accessed through one. A cozy fire burned in the brick fireplace as we ate in the pub area. Our servers treated us as fine diners, transplanting a candle from the restaurant to our table and attending to our every need with rapid and friendly service. We selected several starters for our meal. The tomato basil soup was delicious. Two other dishes vied for status as our favorite: grilled goats cheese over bruschetta and salad and Thai flavored chicken fillets also over salad. Though not a fan of duck, we found the smoked duck and asparagus salad over mixed greens very flavorful, without the usual gamey tones. We also enjoyed king prawns with garlic over mixed greens and filo parcels stuffed with crab, gruyere cheese and roquette salad. The food and service earned an eager return on our next trip.
