Old Time Cooking, Friendly Waitresses, Mayberry Atmosphere

I live in Los Angeles, but whenever I go to Park City-- and sometimes even Salt Lake City-- I make a point to stop at Chick's Cafe. I know the chicken fried steak is a favorite, but I go for the steak and eggs. The steak is large and cooked just right, and the eggs & taters hit the spot, too. The scones-- love 'em. They're HUGE and served with honey, butter & jelly if you prefer. Okay, so this isn't fancy, healthy or aesthetically pleasing fare, so know that going in. But it tastes like the good 'eatin' of grandma's kitchen and gives you more than you'll be able to finish-- if you're in the area for skiing, this is definitely for you. There's a similar restaurant in downtown L.A like it called The Pantry. No pretensions, proudly displays it's "B" rating in the window and has lines around the corner. The great thing about Chick's? No lines, same fare.

Better then "The Hub"

Which isn't saying much... two old time diners, where you have to check your cholesterol on your way out.
Not too hygenic, not too great a service.. definitely not too great a food.

This place is sometimes closed on Sundays and does not accept checks or credit cards.

Chick’s is a trip back in time to the 1950s. It has cheap, filling, and basic café food. If you are lucky enough to get one cooked right, the scones are terrific. Utah scones have no resemblance to the Scottish bread. Rather, they are a variant of Navajo Fry Bread and should be slathered with butter and honey. The only cost $1 and can be ordered as part of a meal, so take a chance (the cook won’t burn it or leave the interior undercooked) and give it a try.

The same goes with the Chicken Fried Steak ($8), Chick’s café classic when the cooks don’t burn it. When you go in, you can only see half the place. The dining room— tables and chairs--is in the back to the right.

The food is cheap, filling, and it won’t kill you. The menu has meat, potatoes, and gravy. There is a limited choice of meat--ham, steak, fish, chicken, or pork chops; fries, mashed or baked; and canned green beans or overcooked carrots, but it fills you up for $8 to $15.
