Alonzo's

Alonzo's is located in Craft Inn on Route 9 in Wilmington, VT. This is the perfect example of a restaurant with decent food, but with terrible decor and atmosphere. The restaurant is located in the front of a large inn. For reasons I cannot fathom, the entrance to the restaurant is in the back of the inn in the basement. Therefore, you drive to the back, park, go in through the back, and the hostess walks you all the way through the basement to the front. Maybe during ski season, the basement is booming, but it was all a waste for us. Also, with the bar in the basement, it seemed that every drink we ordered was spilled on the stairs before it got to us.

The food was good enough. I ordered a sampler of ribs, which were decent. Everyone seemed to like their meals. The service was not so good, since it seemed like there was only one waiter on duty and he was getting tired running up and down the stairs.

Overall, I would recommend skipping Alonzo's and going to Poncho’s Wrecks a block away.

Great value for your money. Excellent cuisine. Make sure you visit on Tuesday nights when it's Italian Night. Their specials are $8.95 and include a huge salad.

The pastas prepared were extremely fresh and portions were so large that we ended up taking food home and had it for dinner the following night. Alonzo does have a children's menu. However, I would strongly suggest that you forgo the children's menu and order from the specials. They cost the same but the value is extremely different and better.

The weeknight specials vary. Tueday night was a complete dinner for $8.95. The service and food were very good. The restaurant is attached to the Inn--can't beat that for convenience.
