It's not easy to travel on a low budget, and even less so in La Jolla. However, there are some places where you can eat relatively inexpensively. One of those places is the Cheese Shop.

The Cheese Shop is a wonderful little deli squeezed between two restaurants. It has been here for years, and at first served mostly sandwiches. Now they also have a large assortment of candies, domestic and imported.

There are are couple of small tables inside as well as out front on the sidewalk terras. This deli is very popular with the locals. They take their sandwiches to the beach (about 1 1/2 block west). One of my favorite sandwiches is an evergreen sandwich with whole wheat bread, avocado, alfalfa sprouts, and provolone cheese, although you get a choice on your cheeses.

Very casual.
