Kitchen Little

I have traveled all over the country and even gone to some foreign spots, and I still say that this is my very favorite place to eat breakfast. Though I live in Connecticut, it is still a 2-hour drive here, so I do not get to eat here as often as I'd like.

First, you have to expect to wait for a table. This is nearly always a given. They have a little white board where you write your first name and the number in your party as you arrive, and then you just explore the nearby Mystic River as you wait to be called.

You will walk in to a VERY tiny dining room. But if you think that's tiny, steal a glimpse into the kitchen. I would be claustrophobic if I had to cook there!

You will be seated right on top of other people. The servers have very little room to get around. Nevertheless, this is part of the charm, as you will meet and chat while you are dining. In several trips there, I have made the acquaintance of people from all over the country!

The menu is enormous given the tiny kitchen, and everything is good. The omelet choices take a whole menu side. My particular favorite is jelly and cream cheese. It sounds kind of strange, but the combination is yummy. I sometimes will opt for one of their specials. (Yes, in addition to the huge menu, they also have specials.) The coffee is really good, too! Expect to pay less than $15 for breakfast for two.

Kitchen Little

The name Kitchen Little is appropriate...this very small building, located right on the Mystic River, is one of the most popular breakfast places in town. Due to its small size, you usually have to wait outside for a table yet people don't seem to mind with the wonderful views of the Mystic River.

This place is really quaint...it's so small inside that you feel very much a part of the whole operation. Don't plan to visit for personal, private conversations...little is private in this place.

Now, what to have. Kitchen Little serves 45 different breakfast choices so it can be somewhat overwhelming to decide since everytthing looks (and is) so good. Their omelets are delicious. Try the Kitchen Little Sinker Omelet (which includes, you guessed right, everything but the kitchen sink)...Bacon, American cheese, fresh mushrooms, peppers, onions, homefries, sour cream.
