Sam's Sourdough; Another Fairbanks Diner That Will be Missed

I have always loved this place. Sam's sourdough was always the one restaurant where me and my mother could bond, it's the only place where the food was better then you would think for the building it was in. Today though, the Amazing place, once known as Sam's Sourdough Cafe Hours 6am-10pm Daily, opened it's doors for the last time. Between 6 and 7 PM March 14th, 2009 Sam's Sourdough tragically burned down, and is currently, what i can see from my bedroom window, still a smoldering building.

I am unaware of how the fire started, seeing as how it has only been a few hours since it happened.

Hopefully if anyone reads this review they know how amazing this place was, and if you didn't i am sorry for your loss.
(and ours too)

My heart goes out to Sharron who i hope is Ok.
Aswell seeing as how the restaurant was open for business at the time of the fire, i hope all the patrons/staff are ok aswell.

Fairbanks will miss you, i will miss you.

Goodbye The only Restaurant i can call Friend.

Sam's Sourdough Cafe

While in Fairbanks, we had one breakfast and one lunch at Sourdough Sam's. The servers were so helpful, friendly, and nice, and the food was wonderful. The place was very crowed both times we were there. We loved the breakfast and it was one of the best we had ever had. The fried halibut I had at lunch was also wonderful. If you are in a hurry and don't care about atmosphere (it's just a small diner), then Sourdough Sam's is the place for you to eat in Fairbanks.

The locals call this restaurant Sourdough Sams, but it's technically Sam's Sourdough Cafe, and is fantastic.

When I first moved up to Fairbanks for college, my dad went with me for a few days. We asked around for a good place to get breakfast, and were referred to this place. I quickly became an addict, and when my father came to visit me again about two years later, the first place he wanted to go was to Sam's.

Service
This place is amazingly popular, so don't be intimidated by the line of waiting customers when you walk in, especially around breakfast time during the weekend. The waitresses are all very fast, and I've never waited more than ten minutes to be seated. Of course, this also means that there is some pressure to not linger over your coffee afterwords because you know that people are waiting for your table. All your wonderful food will be delivered quickly.

Food
The food is incredible. They have a wonderful selection of omelettes, and their biscuits and gravy are to die for! No matter what I'm eating, I always get a side order of these too. Sam's breakfasts are by far the best thing they do, but any time of the day you come in you can get breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Price
Very reasonable. Just a little bit more expensive than a Denny's and you will have one of the best breakfasts you've ever had.

Atmosphere
Always crowded, sometimes a bit loud. Since this is a small town, there also tends to be occasional yelling across the room when people realize their friends and neighbors have also come to breakfast. Very friendly.

This restaurant recently became 100% non-smoking, which makes it even better.
