If you have been in Europe for as long as I have, one thing that you are probably missing right about now is Mexican food. I found the best Mexican food in a rather unlikely place, Slovenia! Ljubljana's location to Italy explains the burst of Pizzerias and Italian Restaurants. I have no way of explaining the Mexican food phenomenon, all I can say is, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Probably the best of the best is Joe Pena's, located just three minutes walk from the Opera. Chances are you'll pass it if you're on your way to the Modern Art Musseum or National Gallery. This Cantina is named after the first person of Hispanic descent to play American pro baseball. The pub has a very Mexican-American feeling circe 1950's. The menu is extensive and clever sprinkled with bits of Americana. The food is amazing, fresh, hot, traditional mexican food, the likes of which you thought you would never see again. The old favorties are there: Burritos, Tacos, Fajitas, Nachos, Sopas, ect... along with traditional food that encompasses meat, beans, fish, and vegetrain options. Íngrediants are fresh and meals are served with a fair amount of spice! There is also a large selection of Cocktails, order some Nachos, and wash them down together. Servers are friendly, and speak some English, English menues are avaliable. Prices are reasonable especially considering the quality of the food. A very lively social scene at night. The bar is busy. I know that you didn't come to Slovenia for the Burritos, but if you've tried the Burek and are longing for a taste of home, don't miss Joe Pena's. Besides, who knows when you'll find good Mexican in Europe again?
