Description: Located near the harbour by the Baumwall metro stop (on the yellow line), this Portuguese restaurant offers the opportunity to try its fare surrounded by a sort of Disney-esque decor. From the metro stop if you are facing the harbour, turn right and walk about 5 minutes down the street.
There are old wooden tables and chairs with large pictures of Portuguese fishermen and random seafaring items about. The waitstaff speak some English, and the menu is in Portuguese with German translations. The menu is mostly seafood (being near the harbour and all) and proved to be acceptable and filling.
I got the paella, which had a combination of chicken, lamb, shrimp, and mussels (as well as the veggies and rice). While I liked it enough to eat three-quarters of it, it wasn't the best paella I'd had and it had lots of little pieces of bone in it, which made it kind of scary to eat. The paella could have been shared by two or three people. My friend had the shrimp and champagne dish, which came with a salad, and she finished it right up! She also had a glass of wine--only Portuguese wines are served. The waiter brought it in a flask and then impressively (to her), scarily (to me) poured the wine into the glass from a height of about 3 feet. That made the mild white wine quite foamy.
The place seemed about a third to a half full and had another room in the back, so reservations seem somewhat unnecessary in the winter. While I wouldn't recommend making a special trip to eat at this restaurant, if you are in the area, it'd be a good place to try some of the Portuguese fare. As with the other restaurants I've been to in Hamburg, it is very smoky.
