Bland Food, Expensive Prices

  • April 15, 2008

Very disappointing dining experience. Bland food, expensive prices, water glass refilled once, cold (stale) roll with individual serving of "whipped spread"--what is that?? For the money, check out Bookbinders or The Bank in Pearisburg, you won't be disappointed at either of those places. But if you prefer bland food at high prices and cramped quarters, then this is the place for you.

The Farmhouse: A Special Night Out

The Farmhouse gets its name from its atmosphere. This restaurant is housed in an actual old farmhouse, renovated into an eatery. From the time you walk through the door, you will enjoy the homey feel. Some of the rooms are large, restaurant-style areas catering to larger groups. The décor is fancy, with a farmhouse-parlor style. Other tables are housed in individual rooms. Each of these rooms consists of a restored horse stable with bench-style seating and cozy lighting. These "stables" are perfect for couples looking for a romantic and secluded dinner, or for families with young children. The more isolated location will give the kids the freedom to speak in their normal tone. They will also love the fact that they are eating dinner in a horse stable. The food is outstanding. Meat is the mainstay. For top-of-the-line cuts of beef, there is nowhere like the Farmhouse. This location is very popular with Virginia Tech students, especially during special occasions like graduation, homecoming, and parent’s weekends. At these times, reservations are absolutely essential. In fact, you should try to get a reservation anytime you come here, especially on a weekend night. To beat the crowds, head out during the week or on a weekend during VT’s winter break (mid-December to mid-January). The location is about a 15- to 20-minute drive from the VT campus area of Blacksburg. For fine dining in a unique atmosphere, the Farmhouse is a wonderful choice.
