The waiters are very, very snooty and make you feel a bit grubby - even when you are dressed to the nines.
In a place like this you might expect high prices and elegant meals to go with the atmosphere, right?
Gran'Duca serves Pizza. Only Pizza. No salads, sandwiches, or pasta. It's a pizza joint in a palazzo.
People come to Gran' Duca for the atmosphere. It's incredibly romantic and has a huge window looking over the sea - quite the best view of any restaurant in Taormina. There are wedding suppers held here almost every night.
But frankly, the pizza is average at best. My last visit, the pizza was hard as a rock and even my very sharp knife was having trouble cutting it.
Remember, people come here for the atmosphere and the reputation - not the food.
