My friend Leslie and I were invited by our neighbor Carl to dine at the Great Wall Restaurant last week. I had been to this restaurant some years ago with my ex-husband and was not impressed by the buffet and its food. This time was no different, either.
I loaded my plate with many dishes from the buffet, including sauteed green beans, General's Chicken, Vietnamese rolls, and crab rangoons. The beans were delicious in their light sauce, but that was the only thing I enjoyed from the buffet. The rolls were burnt, and the General's Chicken had too much ginger in it. The crab rangoons were too well done, and I didn't dare go near the chow mein because the noodles looked as if they'd been under the heat lamps forever. My friend said that the rice was undercooked.
The service at Great Wall is good, and the waitress often came around to our table to make sure we were OK. Carl was a little tipsy, but he was funny and made Leslie and me feel beautiful.
The dinner buffet costs about $8, but it isn't worth it. There is also a stir-fry buffet that lets you choose your own meats and veggies; then the cook stir-fries them for you.
