Jekyll Island is one of the most idyllic resort towns. It's a very quiet place for nature lovers - a great place to get the family away from the hustle and bustle of their everyday lives. The main attraction is the historic district where the wealthiest once game to play. Jekyll Island Club Hotel is the center of this golden era and the Grand Dining Room is a wonderful and lasting remnant that allows diners to feel what it must have been like to be a Carnegie or Vanderbilt.

The luscious dining room is kept in pristine condition. My parents and I have been to the Grand Dining Room for their Sunday Brunches several times now. The gracious waitress starts you off with a glass of Yellowtail Sparkeling Wine. First off, the wine really surprised me. It was so refreshing and light - of course Yellowtail is known to be a reliable winemaker so I shouldn't have been so surprised.

The brunch is a buffet - hopefully this will not scare you off. This buffet has an excellent assortment of brunch items including a omelette bar with every ingredient you could think of, a tasty pastry bar, and of course the crucial hot bar that included scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage links/patties, and grilled veggies. On the other size of the buffet there is a an excellent warm and cold seafood bar, carving station, and soup and salad bar. There's also a selection of wonderful cheeses and cured meats and of course a dessert bar with amazing pies, tarts, and cookies.

The service is impeccable and the food is absolutely delicious. The price is $28.95 - but remember, this is a full service brunch buffet. Your drinks including juices and coffee are included. For special brunches including Easter, Christmas, and Mother's Day expect a higher price as they bring out special items.

The Grand Dining Room staff and service was outstanding, as was the food. Although overpriced, I would highly recommend dining there if ever trapped on the island.

The Grand Dining Room is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I'm sure dinner is a dressy affair, though we've never been there for the evening meal. This is a favorite lunch place for us when we are walking or shopping the historic district. Luncheon specials of usually soup and a sandwich are about $5.

First let's cover breakfast...There is the buffet that is about $10 and is excellent. My choice was not on the buffet but on the menu and it was worth it. They are the Georgia Pancakes, which have pecans inside the batter and are served with warm peach compote. Heavenly!

Now for dinner...Again there is a Sunset Dinner, which includes a soup or salad and an entree and is around $20. Again I went to the dinner menu for my choices. I had the Shrimp and Cavier bisques to start off with and must say it was beyond excellent. My companion had the Oysters Vanderbilt and I did try one. Yummy. I had the most delicious dish for dinner, the Soft-Shelled Crabs. They were were served with cheddar cheese grits and whiskey cream sauce.

The Grand Dining Room at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel truly lives up to its name - it is a grand dining experience - no matter what meal you eat here. Breakfast features an all you can eat buffet. While there is not an egg station to fix eggs the way you want them - the server will be glad to pass your order to the chef.

Lunch was absolutely delicious - be sure and try the corn chowder. We were unable to eat dinner here because I did not have a jacket. If you plan to eat dinner here be sure and bring along a jacket as it is required.
