AVOID Radio Maria.

When a customer says, "I may be on the list," the appropriate response is not, "I doubt it." We had a very rude hostess on our LAST visit. Earlier that day, the owner took my name and the size of my group and assured me he would try to accommodate us, even though we could not make a formal reservation. The staff was also rude to my friends who dropped off a birthday cake earlier in the evening. They seemed unwilling to accommodate us and were not pleasant about it.

A previous visit was also marred by bad service. The staff didn't understand how to serve tapas, though the restaurant has a tapas menu.

Downtown Champaign has many other restaurants with friendly service and good food.

This is probably one of my favorite restaurants to visit because: 1. you can dress up (but you don't have to!) and 2. you can get creative food there. Local artists designed the interior; it's very cool looking without being uber-trendy. The cuisine is international fusion - but don't let that pretentious classification throw you off. The food is flavorful, unique - but not necessarily "simple."

Also, they don't take reservations. On weekends, get ready to wait -- or better yet, spend some time at nearby Cafe Kopi or Esquire (a bar), and they'll call you when your table is ready.
