Union Park is located on the ground floor of the Macomber Hotel, directly on the beach at Cape May. At night, a light reveals the logo on the sidewalk across from the boardwalk and lures you into the cozy restaurant. Union Park is one of the finer restaurants in Cape May, but manages to do so without the pretension that flaws some of the others. The dress at Union Park is dressy casual, with most patrons wearing nicer pants and tops.
The atmosphere at Union Park is romantic and subdued. There are two separate dining rooms. There’s a large open area and a quiet library area with fireplace. The library room can be reserved for private parties up to 35 and is where my husband and I held our wedding dinner. The 2 rooms are separated by a set of glass doors. Each tables features candlelight dining and the overall interior is light and tasteful.
The food at Union Park is modern Continental, with an emphasis on seafood. The menu offers a moderate selection, with everyone sure to find something to their taste. Prix fixe and early-bird menus offer a more limited selection for a discounted price -- usually in the range of $30 for 3 courses. Our personal favorites at Union Park include the mesclun green salad and the garlic potatoes. Both are *very* tasty! Union Park is BYOB, so plan ahead with your favorite bottle of wine -- perhaps something from the local Cape May winery.
The service at Union Park is some of the best in Cape May. The hostess and owner, Maja, will greet you with a smile and every server and staff member works extra hard to make sure that you have an enjoyable meal and dining experience. The servers are very knowledgeable about the menu and can provide guidance to those wanting to try something new.
I heartily recommend a stop at Union Park when you are in Cape May. The restaurant is open year-round, which makes it a natural choice in winter when many others are shuttered. Their webpage provides the latest menu and special offerings, as well as a schedule. If you will be bringing children to Union Park, be advised that it is a fine dining establishment, and you may want to bring some entertainment to occupy them.
