Bad Overpriced Food and Poor Service

This place stinks. We went on a recommendation (7/31/08) and did the take out and eat in the back. There were 10 of us. 3 of us ordered the broiled lobster which was so tough that it was almost inedible. I have never had lobster overcooked so bad.

The worst part, however, was that the broiled lobster took over 50 minutes (menu said to allow 20 minutes). Furthermore, they would not give us our sodas or any other food (including kids) until the entire order was done so everyone had to wait the full time. We finally went back into the take out shop and ordered additional bottled drinks in order to get drinks for the kids. Not to mention that the prices are way high (9 oz lobster tail for $20).

If you are going to go, do yourself a favor and order the broiled food on a separate order than the rest of your food.

The Lobster House is another South Jersey tradition. I think it is way overpriced and overcrowded if you eat in the regular dining room. The Lobster House has takeout. You have the same or better selection as in the main dining room, but you pay half the price. You can take your meal and sit in the back on picnic tables by the bay and have the same ocean view as if you ate in the main dining room.

The takeout menu has sandwiches, fried platters, and broiled platters. They are all $15 or less. Also, there is a raw clam bar in the back you can buy from á la carte. This is an affordable way to take your family out.

The Lobster House is one of those traditional seafood places you want to visit when you're in a town like Cape May.

The food is excellent and the portions are generous. The restaurant is decorated in a nautical theme with lots of wood paneling. A highlight, if you can get one, is one of the window tables on the water where you can watch sailboats returning at the end of the day.

The only negative on eating here is the no reservations policy. On in season weekends, the restaurant opens for dinner at 4 p.m. and there's already a long line formed at that point. (Get in line around 3:30-3:45pm if you want to guarantee early seating and a good view).

Waits of more than an half hour or even an hour aren't unusual during peak season. If you can't bear the wait, consider the restaurant across the street (can't remember the name). It's good too, but you don't get the view.

Located at the wharf, overlooking the harbor. It is a favorite for fresh seafood and lobster. Inside and outside restaurant, very relaxing. Decorated with marine decor. There is a fresh seafood market. Crowded during the evening hours.
