Pusser's Outpost

Pusser's Outpost

Pusser's Outpost is an island institution! They serve typical North American cuisine, including pizza and burgers, in a casual bar-like setting. Pusser's carries its own brand of British rum. You can't leave without trying a Pain Killer and buying the souvenir tin mug that it's served in. The Outpost shop carries clothing, watches, cigars, and other gifts. They sell great hot sauces and marinades as well. They are open daily from 10am till midnight.

The location is perfect, with views of the sunsets over Frenchmen’s Cay and St. Thomas if you choose the outdoor patio or get the right window seat.

The food was fresh, with most interest being in the citrus seafood dishes. The menu gave us all plenty to choose from. The bar is THE place to hang. Get a Painkiller and keep the tin cup—an easy souvenir decision.

The highly advertised rum was okay, but we had other favorites. I'll leave it to you to explore and decide for yourself. That's more than half the fun.

The bar can be quite an event in itself, with rum drinks like the famous Painkiller served in various potencies. Careful, they can sneak up on you.

Service was a little better than "island time." Most meals, but not all, were delivered as ordered.

Prices were probably a little higher than you would pay in many other places in the area for the same basic meal. However, the small premium is justified by the special ambience.

Pusser's Pub

First of all, I know this place is famous. No trip to Tortola would be complete without a stop at Pusser's famous Road Town pub. Before our trip, many people told us "Make sure you go to Pusser's Pub." Of course, none of them had been to the island.

It's a decent pub that serves up decent food. It's a bit overrated, IMHO. The service was not very good here, and even at 11:30 AM, we were surrounded by loud drunks from Liverpool. Not that I have anything against loud drunks from Liverpool - I just wasn't prepared for rugby songs at lunch. It seems that this is definitely the place to go if you want to follow up breakfast with 12 or 15 longnecks, but I wouldn't recommend it if you are halfway sober and are looking to stay that way.

This is a good place to stop, have a beer, have your picture taken, or whatever. It looks like a great place to party. It's not the best place to actually have a meal or relax.
