Great fritters and delightful ocean side dining. Service a little spotty but fun place to eat some fritters and drink a beer. Lunch sandwiches great too. Cracked Conch was very well prepared.

Hemingway's Beachfront Restaurant

Beachfront at the Sands Hotel, located on Grace Bay Beach, is Hemingway's Restaurant. If you are staying at the Sands, or one of the nearby hotels, the location is convenient and very easy to get to.

Hemingway's is a bar/restaurant located right on the beach with excellent views. At night, the palm trees are lighted for that extra special setting.

The menu featured a variety of items, including pasta, seafood, and steak. They start serving dinner at 5pm, and reservations are recommended, however not always necessary. Breakfast and lunch are also served, and the restaurant tends to be less crowded during the day.

Service is marginal—sort of "hit-or-miss". The first night we were there, service was lacking, as if they could have cared less if we were there or not. The second day was better, and we actually got our waitress to smile. Service was marginally slow, but no worse than being on "Caribbean time," as we have experienced on other islands. Be patient, because it will take awhile, and you may or may not get friendly service.

The food was, for the most part, delicious. The dinner salad was unexciting, but the entrees and drinks were pretty tasty.

Bring your wallets, because it is rather pricey, but as you will find throughout the island, heavily lined wallets are required at many dining establishments. Overall, we give Hemmingway's the following ratings (as compared to other restaurants on the island):

The restaurant is just off the beach at The Sands resort. This restaurant is open-air, with a huge deck overlooking the beach. Breakfast is fantastic here and the prices are pretty good. We also ate lunch and dinner here and were never disappointed in the quality or amount of the food. Everything was presented very nicely. Like a lot of Provo service, the waitstaff was hit or miss, with poor attitudes. This isn't fancy dining, it is casual—a great place to end up after a walk on the beach.

We ate here twice and found it reasonable and wonderful. We ate under the stars. On one evening they had a buffet, which was quite good. THIS DESCRIPTION WAS TAKEN FROM FROMMERS. An instant island hot spot, Hemingway's beachside locale attracts international travelers as well as locals. The selections are inviting and the creations are palate-pleasing. Fresh grouper, for example, is lightly spiced and pan-seared, served with a tequila-spiked veggie salsa with charred onions, black beans, corn, red and green peppers, and carrots. Shrimp is lightly sautéed with a scrumptious pesto cream over penne, and filet mignon is exquisitely grilled with a fragrant red wine mushroom sauce. Hemingway's is also a good lunch choice, serving gourmet sandwiches, hearty salads, soft fish tacos, or fresh vegetable pitas. Finish with fresh fruit crepes laced with a Grand Marnier caramel and fried ice cream. At night, with its torches and candlelight, there's a hint of romance.
