Early Girl Eatery is a local restaurant located on Wall Street in downtown Asheville, really close to where I work. My coworkers and I have gone there a few times for lunch and each time I have been very impressed. They serve traditional American and Southern dishes, but the thing that makes Early Girl so special is that most of the food served comes from local farms/sources. The prices are very reasonable and the food is fresher too since the majority of it is local.
The dining atmosphere is casual and laid back, with big south-facing windows letting in plenty of sunlight during the day. Every time I have been to Early Girl, the service is friendly and fast, and the restaurant caters to all sorts of people (couples, families, groups of friends, etc). Reservations are not required, but is probably recommended for a large group since the restaurant is smaller.
I am a creature of habit, so every time I go I get the cheeseburger, which is the best cheeseburger I have ever had in my life (and I've had many cheeseburgers!). They used this very good local cheese on it that makes the burger absolutely delicious. It comes with a side, and I have yet to have a side that I didn't like. So, if you're unsure of what to order, go with the cheeseburger.
I have never eaten breakfast here, but their breakfast menu is impressive! If it is as good as their lunch fare, then I would suppose that it would be a great place to have breakfast.
I highly recommend this place to anyone. If you're wondering around downtown Asheville during lunchtime and are looking for a good place to try some local food, Early Girl would be my top pick.

What a great place! This menu is different from any other you'll see. First of all, don't be fooled by the meatloaf and pork chops. Nothing here is standard fare. It is good, locally grown food prepared with a DEFINITE flair. If you don't like your vegetables, then get ready to be a changed person. Grilled salmon with glazed carrots and tasty asparagus is my favorite (and I don't like veggies that much either!). My husband is a vegetarian and can always find something. They also have specials in addition to the regular menu. There is a great wine list and desserts, too.
