The Friendly Fisherman Restaurant

John’s Pass, just north of the drawbridge on Treasure Island in Florida, has several waterfront restaurants next to the wharf. We pulled into the first entryway of trendy John’s Pass Mall and noticed a lighthouse, out lined with neon lights, at the end of a long, dark driveway. It turned out to be the Friendly Fisherman Restaurant owned and operated by the Hubbard family; it was next to the Hubbard Marina that included a fleet of fishing boats.

We entered through the door of the lighthouse and found ourselves in a bar; the restaurant was upstairs. A diversified collection of prize fish was mounted on the walls along with some excellent watercolor paintings with price tags. We were seated next to a window where we could see people passing by on the boardwalk.

We started our meal with a fresh Boardwalk Salad, consisting of Romaine lettuce tossed in a garlic-vinegarette dressing and served with croutons and shredded cheese, $1.95. It was different than most salads, but delicious. For our entrees, I ordered Neptune’s Platter, $13.95 and Bob ordered Fishermans’ Platter, $13.95. My dinner included fresh broiled flounder that was so light I was surprised it didn’t fall apart, shrimps and scallops that were done to perfection, and huge snow crab legs. I had a choice of two sides and chose baked potato and coleslaw. Bob had substituted grouper for salmon for an additional $1.95. It was well worth it; the fish tasted like lobster. His entree, also included jumbo shrimp and sea scallops, and for his two sides he chose French fries and coleslaw. Corn fritters were served with the dinners. Both dinners were excellent.

This was our favorite meal of our entire vacation. The food was delicious and there was a great variety. You sit overlooking the water and can watch the dolphin while you enjoy your food. The portions are big and are great for sharing with your table members. The kids menu offers both seafood and traditional kids meal options.

Friendly Fisherman was a friendly place!!! We went on a fishing charter with Hubbards Fishing and were able to take our catch in to the Friendly Fisherman to be cooked and served. They cooked our fish in the manner we requested and served with slaw, fries and hushpuppies all for $4.95. It was very good.

Friendly Fisherman Seafood Restaurant

This is our favorite restaurant in Madeira Beach for any meal, breakfast, lunch or dinner. With this being the case, we headed here our first morning in town. Not only is the Friendly Fisherman known for its wide variety of breakfast items, including daily specials that are listed on a board as you enter the restaurant, but also for Captain Hubbard's Famous Seafood Omelette. This omelette is made with three eggs, grouper, scallops, shrimp and crab and having left more than full on our previous visit, we knew to order just one and split it. With a side order of grits and biscuits, I had plenty to eat without leaving so stuffed I couldn't eat again until nightfall. Our waitress, who had only been working there for a month, was very friendly and kept our coffee cups filled. With a great view of John's Pass, we lingered over our coffee and watched the fishing boats as they headed out to the Gulf and the pelicans diving for their breakfast.

This is our favorite place to eat. No matter whether you come for breakfast, lunch or dinner, the food is always good and the help is always friendly. There are great views of John's Pass and of the people walking along the boardwalk.
If you come for breakfast be sure and try Capt. Hubbard's Famous Seafood Omelette. I guarantee you won't go away hungry.
At lunch or dinner I always have their oysters.
