P'as de Pot

Four of us visited this traditionally decorated restaurant in the heart of Old Nice. Set menus range from 95F (about $15) to 190FF (about $30). Three of us chose the menu at 95F, with hot goat cheese salad as entrée (other choices were available), beef entrecôte and chicken filet in pepper sauce as main dish, with a choice of either chocolate mousse, crême brulée or house dessert to finish. The fourth diner chose fish soup, a local specialty, and tagliatellas in a cream and basilic sauce. We were all very satisfied with the food, cooked just as we had asked and perfectly seasoned.

We also ordered two wines, the house Côtes de Provence red at 55F the bottle, and a bottle of Beaujolais-Villages at 115F. The house red was somewhat disappointing, although a good accompaniment to our salads. The Beaujolais-Villages was excellent - as was to be expected!

Service was friendly and accommodating. Although the menus weren't available in English, they offered to translate them for our English-speaking friends. A waitress also presented herself to take our picture when she noticed our friend take out his camera.

Altogether our total for four people came to 620FF, or about $100, an excellent price considering the food and wine quality.

The restaurant décor was simple yet rich and tasteful, and would lend itself to any special occasion.

View the photos for a map showing how to get there, and a picture of the restaurant's interior. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays.
