McT's Shrimp House

McT's is a casual, pleasant place that specializes in seafood, particularly shrimp. We went specifically to experience their steamed seafood platter ($39.95 for two), which Sanibel-savvy friends had raved about.

The platter is very large, with two kinds of shrimp, crawdads, clams, mussels, and crab legs. You can choose to have extra crab legs or a whole lobster with it. We ordered the lobster, which proved to be a mistake. The lobster took so long to cook that the rest of the platter was quite cold when we got it. And when we cracked open a lobster claw, it became immediately clear that something was wrong. Instead of the firm, rosy flesh we expected, a viscous ooze seeped out.

The server quickly agreed that lobster shouldn't be that way, and offered to replace the lobster or discount our check.

The rest of the seafood was acceptable--everything tasted fresh though a little bit overcooked and rubbery. The key lime pie was great--by far the best I had on Sanibel or Captiva.

McT's was highly recommended by friends who visit Sanibel almost every year. Because of that, I would be willing to give it another try.
