The Spanish Bakery

IF you are on a budget (and if you’re not), you should eat here for lunch at least once. The Spanish Bakery is this little hole-in-the-wall place behind a fudge shop on St. George's Street. The address tells you how small it is, since it's at 42 1/2.

Come lunchtime, you can smell the scent of fresh bread baking. And that draws you in. Inside the small building, you see your choices. They have a combo deal of one bowl of soup (soup of the day: picadillo (love this), chicken noodle, and sometimes potato), a roll, a can of soda, and a cookie, OR you can get Spanish empanadas or a smoked sausage roll with the above for $5 (last time I was there). They also allow you to purchase one entire loaf of bread for $1. All the food here is great.

Once you get your lunch, grab a table out front or on the side under the trees and have a good lunch. And on your way out, stop by the fudge shop for some dessert.

This outdoor bakery and restaurant is a favorite with the locals and tourists alike. The bakery boosts, "the same menu for 20 years." Its hard to improve on perfection. Breakfast in served at 9:00, hugh cinnamon rolls topped with brown sugar frosting ($.50), of sausage roll-up ($1.50), coffee and drinks ($.50). Lunch is a choice of spanish chili or chicken and rice served with a mini-loaf of bread, a cookie and a drink ($4.00). Home baked loaves of bread ($1.00). The food and prices cannot be beat.
