When you first see this huge brown pirate ship, it seems as if the inside is going to be dark and uninviting. We had second thoughts about going in, but decided to give it a try. We were glad we did! The Treasure Ship is divided into levels. The restaurants all have large picture windows that offer panoramic views of the Grand Lagoon in Panama City Beach. The lower level is Hooks Grill and Grog, a dockside restaurant with an outside covered patio. They are open for lunch and dinner, 11am-10pm, and offer a menu with a Caribbean flair. The Children’s Menu is the same pirate hat that is offered in the Main Dining Room on the second level, open only for dinner, 4-10pm. This review will focus on Hooks, though we also tried the Main Dining Room and found it equally as good (see my other reviews).
We sat outside on the patio and watched the ships in the marina. My children colored pirate-themed sheets while we sipped cold beers served in mugs. The waiter brought homemade chips with incredibly delicious salsa for us to munch. I asked for his advice about the menu and he was knowledgeable and helpful. The boys ordered chicken fingers and a hamburger. The burger was part of the $4.95 special lunch menu. It was huge! My son really enjoyed it. The kids’ chicken finger meal was average and, at $6.95, more expensive than any of our adult lunch entrees. My mother and I both had the Cuban pork loin for $5.95 each. We selected onion rings and Caribbean coleslaw as our two sides. It also came with plantains. This entrée was wonderful! The sauce for the pork was both garlicky and mango sweet. What a wonderful array of tastes. Our check was very reasonable, well worth the price.
We plan to visit Hooks again to try another of their lunch specials. The food is wonderful and the service couldn’t be better. This restaurant is very highly recommended.
