Barnacle Phil's

I go down to North Captiva over twice a year. Barnacle Phil's is the best restaurant on the island. Over the Water Front is ok but not as good as Phil's. Mangos is not a favorite. Blackened Grouper Sandwich is defiantly a plus of Barnacle Phil's. If you visit I would highly suggest going here.

P.S. Tourists stink!

Well to the last review written below about the grouper sandwhich not really being grouper and being swai! I am actually the owner responding to this and the grouper really is grouper and the swai is on the menu as Barnacle Famous Fish!! So get it right there is Fresh Local Grouper on the menu and well as Barnacles Famous Fish which is Swa! Two completely different fish which are a little similar in taste!!!

Barnacle Phil's Uncovered`

Barnacle Phil's located on North Captiva Island has for years been our favorite stop while boating. We have bragged for years on the size of the grouper sandwich, which now we find is not grouper, but rather swai, which is a catfish from Vietnam farmed in the Mekong river.

So much for grouper. So much for fresh fish. Can you imagine a restaurant located in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico serving fish for Vietnam - and calling it grouper for years!

Shame on you Barnacle Phil.

This is a great restaurant to go and visit. It is located on an island, so be prepared to travel by boat (no road!), but once you get out there it is truly a gem and worth the beautiful boat ride.

It is casual all the way with a island feel, and make sure to check out the conch fritters!

The only way to reach this restaurant is by boat, unless you are living on the island. It's in the middle of the gulf, and the ride out is amazing.

The restaurant itself had delicious food. It had an abundance of fish on the menu (which I don't really like), but also an ample enough variety that I was able to find something that I liked (chicken). The chicken sandwich I ordered was bursting with lettuce, tomatoes, and chicken breast. It was delicious and more than filling enough. You eat outside under umbrellas, and there are friendly sea otters wandering about, probably because people feed them. We didn't let them get close, but we enjoyed watching them wander about - they are so cute.

If you are looking for a place to go on a boat trip and a beautiful island to see, I would recommend checking out this restaurant. Again, it is quite apparent the damage caused by the hurricane. It is interesting to see.

From journal Nature at it's best
