Not Worth the Hype

Just returned from our trip to the South Pacific.
We visited Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora.Had a great time. Ate at some great places.
Chez roger was the worst. Poor service, poor quality of food and poor attitude of Chez Roger and staff.
Would suggest the Mayflower on Moorea over chez roger for service and quality.

This restaurant, also known as Chez Roger and/or the Little Turtle, is located at the edge of Cooks Bay in Paopao. We found it to be very quaint and romantic, with a very laid-back atmosphere.

With (covered) over-the-water outdoor seating (they call it the terrace), you were able to watch the manta rays and eels play while you ate. That is if you were lucky enough to get a table on the water side.

The staff was very accommodating and offered everyone the same opportunity to get the best table (specific tables are not booked in advance). This was another restaurant that offered a small fee for shuttle service to and from your hotel, provided it was arranged in advance. The kitchen was completely open (which I love), and the inside looked like you had stepped into someone’s kitchen in France.

I had mahimahi and Frank had the steak with madeira sauce – both were very good. We shared a citrus crepe flambé for dessert – quite a show, and delicious as well. They had a great wine list. The service was a nice change from Le Mahogany, as it was quick and efficient.

We had a front table on the deck over the water and it was just great. We started with poisson cru which we shared and they even brought a second plate without our asking for it. Then I had crevettes a la Provencale, which was superb. My husband had a seafood casserole, which was very good. These were served with a slightly odd assortment of vegetables –- broccoli, brussel sprouts, and one slice of carrot. We shared crepes sauté a la grand marnier for dessert.

A truly great meal and a good finale to our time in Moorea.

Chez Roger is the nicest restaurant on the island. They have many local dishes and French standards. The dining patio lights shine down on the water and a whole host of rays and eels come out. Very interesting dining entertainment. It’s not cheap, but it is worth eating here once.

A lovely restaurant on Cook's Bay. Fabulous seafood, french and local cuisine. Beautifully presented in a lovely setting. This is a new place, built after the chef's old restaurant burnt down. It's wonderfully designed. A great experience!
