Have you ever wanted to just take a day off and go to France for lunch or dinner but don’t want to spend $980 for a 10-hour flight? So did I. Now, thanks to the magic of Walt Disney, you can go to France for lunch without ever leaving the United States.
Inside the World Showcase at Disney’s EPCOT CENTER in the country of France is a restaurant that is owned by three world-renowned chefs: Paul Bocuse, Roger Vergé, and Gaston Lenôtre. Although the three visit the restaurant often, they leave the masterful creation of culinary delights to Chef Bruno Vrignon, who trained with Bocuse in Lyon, France. The restaurant? Les Chefs de France.
The exterior of the restaurant is designed to look as though you were in the late 19th-century France, and most of the tables inside are surrounded on three sides by French windows that overlook the World Showcase walkway and can swing open to let in the sounds of sidewalk musicians. Every member of the cast is from France and fluent in both French and English, accentuating level of realism that you really are in France. The menu is designed to offer you everything from appetizers like soupe à l'oignon gratinée (onion soup) and Cassolette d'escargots de Bourgogne au beurre persillé (snails) to entrées such as Crêpe au poulet et fromage (a crepe filled with chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, and gruyere) and Gambas Mediterraneenne aux raviolis d'epinard (jumbo shrimp with spinach raviolis and roasted peppers). There are also wine selections from Chateau de Berne, Medoc, and G. Duboeuf that are available by the glass or bottle. This is one of the more popular restaurants in the World Showcase, and I recommend that you either call ahead for a reservation (407/WDW-DINE) or plan on stopping by the restaurant early and putting your name on the reservation list.
