Tired of restaurants and paying too much for great food? Try a visit to the Isla Mujeres supermarket! This is an interesting place to visit and check out the local foods and prices. Around noon each day, the butcher area in the back finishes their rotisserie chickens, and for less than $3, you get a tasty chicken, rice, cole slaw and tortillas. We liked to pick up a chicken meal and a couple of drinks and walk to the boardwalk a block from the store and sit overlooking the Caribbean Sea to eat lunch. Sometimes we did this for dinner and watched the sunset.
Outside the market there are always local ladies with food they cook at home and sell for around 60 cents. This is also good, especially the enchiladas and desserts. The market also offers a good variety of sweet breads and pastries.
Visit the supermarket, you can't go wrong!
