Disappointing

After reading many good reviews of this restaurant and after having visited Isla Mujeres for several years, we decided to try it. We made reservations to be there at sunset (supposedly the best time to go...for the view). We had rented a golf cart for the day and enjoyed the drive to the restaurant. We arrived just as it started raining (just one of those things) and followed the downhill path to the dining room. There were two other couples there who looked like they had been lingering since lunch and 5 small, loud children running and screaming all over the place...so much for romantic ambience. This place does not look to be a place people would take children to. I noticed the children's plates had hardly been touched and thought nothing of it...they would rather be at a MacDonalds, I'm sure. But I also noticed the food left on the adults plates...hmmm. I was geared up for a good steak and lobster (the usual mentions in the reviews I had read). "We don't have lobster"...the waiter told me. There were four waiters and after the other two couples and kids left, we were the only patrons. I ordered Lime soup as an appetizer and a steak...my wife ordered chicken. The soup and chicken came out together and the waiter kept coming to see if I was finished...my steak came out after my wife was through. The four waiters stared at us from the bar the whole evening...we felt uncomfortable, to say the least. The restaurant is very dark...you might want to bring a flashlight for the menu and the walk back to the parking area...and mosquito spray! The food was only so-so...Lime soup was very good, steak alright and chicken dry.

Casa O's is located on the lee side of the island right on the ocean. It features a large Palapa with open sides (wraps are available if you get cool). There is a pier jutting out into the ocean. The food is great, and the owners traditionally greet all of the guests. Probably one of the most romantic dining spots anywhere.

We found Casa O's to be the best restaurant on the island. It is away from town of the bay side of the island. The best time to dine is at least 30 minutes before sun down. You can sip drinks and eat on the outdoor terrace and watch the sun sink into the bay. As twilight falls, the lights shine from Cancun and the stars illuminate above you.

Food is Mexican Nouvelle Cusine. Best steak on the island, the lobster bisque and cerviche were excellent. Service was excellent. You won't feel rushed here! Key lime pie is homemade and to die for. This place comes highly recommended from the locals.
