D’Amico’s Restaurant is located on 33 Canterbury Street in St John. I stayed in the Chipman Hill Suites and from there it was only a 10-minute walk away. I found this restaurant very charming, as the moment you walk in the door you get the authentic Italian feel. You have a wood-burning oven on the main floor where their gourmet pizzas are made right before your eyes.

My first time here I enjoyed a wonderful lunch. I ordered the Tortellini Di Formaggi, which consisted of cheese stuffed tortellini tossed with spicy rose sauce and topped with mozzarella cheese. My mouth is watering right now with the thought of eating it!!! This dish was also served with either garlic bread, ceaser salad or tossed salad. The best thing about eating out at lunchtime is that the prices are extremely reasonable. For such a great meal, it only cost $10.00. This menu is served from 11.30am – 4.00pm Monday – Saturday.

I was so impressed with this restaurant; I wanted to return back there for a second time. So one night the girls and I decided that we would make a reservation for an evening meal. I found the full menu had far more of a variety, however there was a huge difference in the price. For the same dish I had on the lunch menu the price was $17.00. However, I found the food so good, I would have paid the $17.00 first time round and still thought I was getting good value for money!! The second time round my friends and I enjoyed once again an excellent meal of Fettuccine Alfredo, Asiago Pizza, D’Amico Trio and Linguine Di Mare.

Fettuccine Alfedo - consisted of a choice of black forest ham, seafood or chicken in a rich alfredo sauce (Black forest ham $13.95, Seafood $21.95, Chicken $16.95),

Asigo Pizza - Caramelized honey mustard cream sauce, chicken, spinach, onion and asiago cheese $15.95

D’Amico Trio – a combination of chicken parmigiana, lasagna and creamy fettuccine alfredo $20.95

Linguine Di Mare – scallops, shrimp, mussels and white wine with green onions and roma tomatoes with white wine in an aglio e olio sauce $21.95

This restaurant is fully licensed and open 7 days a week.

D'Amico's restaurant is situated in uptown St. John, just minutes from the harbour. The cuisine is Italian/Canadian. The decor is plush and the restaurant is well lit. The kitchen has an open plan, and you can see your order being cooked in front of you. We ate from the lunchtime menu, which was great value, with choices of pizza and salad, lasagna, and tortellini to mention a few. The lunchtime menu contains maybe 15 items - and these are all at a special price. You can also order form the regular menu, but this would be at a slightly higher price.

Whilst my companions all ordered from the lunchtime special menu, I decided to create my own pizza from the regular menu. You can have ANYTHING on a pizza here, even lobster!! I decided to play it safe and went for smoked Gouda, white onions, and fresh basil. It was delicious. The best thing was, when I couldn't manage all of mine, they packaged it up for me to take home. I know that this is commonplace in Canada, and I'm slowly getting used to it, but this is one practice I will sorely miss when I get back to the UK.

D'Amicos is one place that I like to go to with friends for a glass of wine and to talk. It has a wonderful atmosphere and probably one of my favourite restaurants in Saint John. My mothers family is Italian and thus very picky about most Italian restaurants but this establishment impressed all of them. They have an open kitchen where you can see your food prepared and the best real pizzas around.

If you are looking for a nice evening go down with a few people and relax, they are more interested in you having a good time and enjoying yourself than getting your money and getting you out the door.

May I also suggest the parmas, eggplant, chicken, or veal. I think they are the best.

As a frequent diner at D'Amicos, every dining experience is always amazingly satisfying. I usually order the Asiago Chicken Dinner with roasted vegetables and the most delicious sauce. With that I usually order a half litre of house wine, and for dessert I order the tiramisu (lady fingers, plenty of rich chocolate, and whipped cream) and some earl grey tea to top it off. The mood lighting is gorgeous and very comfortable.
