Mangy Moose Restaurant & Saloon

After reading many reviews about the Mangy Moose, we decided to try it. It is located in Teton Village, at the base of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort for skiing. (Walking distance from the Snake River Lodge, Alpenhof, Four Seasons & other Resorts.)

They open for dinner at 5:30pm. Dress was ski resort casual (did not see anyone 'dressed up'). Reservations are recommended, however, we went around 5:30pm on a week night without reservations, and we were seated right away.

The decor is fun, with various movie posters, antique items, and a large moose with glowing green eyes on the wall. Unfortunately, my review of the food is not as 'glowing.'

Coming into the restaurant, you would expect to find food quality and prices of that of a more casual restaurant, i.e. Hard Rock Cafe, however, the menu is filled with fancy entrees and prices to match. Steaks from $20-35, fish, with a majority of the entrees starting at $15++. Now that would be fine if the food was really good, but it wasn't. It was 'ok', but $60 for a basic dinner that was just 'ok' isn't any fun. It beats the prices at the resorts, however, we found better restaurants in the Jackson Hole main town.

This was a really neat little restaurant with lots of Old West items on the walls to keep you looking. The food was really good, and I would definitely go back.

The restaurant is located in the ski area and is within walking distance for the ski lifts. The menu has some really good options of American food and seafood. Most of my group ordered a steak, but I ordered the Alaskan king crab legs. We all had a great meal. The staff was all friendly and the service was good and quick. This is a nice place I would love to try again soon.

Great apres ski bar with lots of room and a great selection of beers and food. There is no better way to relax after a day of skiing than in this superfriendly bar atmosphere. You must be 21 to get in.

Mangy Moose

Looking for the place with the best apres ski action after a day on the slopes at Jackson Hole? The Mangy Moose is where you can find all of the locals--and tourists in the know. It has the best entertainment, beer specials, and great snacks! Not to mention the ambiance and of course the moose suspended from the ceiling.

Definitely try one of the many micro-brews!

Be sure to get there early to get a good seat--otherwise you will end up in the overflow bar.

The Mangy Moose is easy to find--everyone knows where it is! It is located in the plaza just across the street from the post office and next to the clock tower.

Don't forget to buy one of their famous t-shirts.

The only drawback is being forced to choose between the elk, fresh trout, or the other countless game selections on the menu.

Vegetarians need not apply at "The Moose".

The atmosphere is a bit touristy, but the food makes it worth the stop.

******update******

I stand corrected by a reader: I am a vegetarian and ate quite happily at the Mangy Moose several times last winter. They have veggie chili, wraps, and a portobello sandwich if I remember correctly. :) - Truly
