Jimmy Restaurant

This restaurant is associated with the Mandarin Oriental and not very far from it. When I was in Bangkok in 1990, I walked with a backpack for maybe an hour and a half in the hot climate, sweating—finding this air-conditioned place playing MTV on the monitors on the second floor was a much-welcomed relief.

After realizing that they serve fruit drinks, I must have ordered four drinks, gulping down one after another. The staff just smiled as I quenched my thirst. Not every place serves drinks like mango shakes, so it's nice to find a place like this that does a good job of it.

It's fairly expensive by local standards, but because of the favorable exchange rates, it seems a bargain for us foreigners with the right currencies.

Open Mondays through Saturdays 8am to 9pm.

Ten-minute walk from Skytrain S6, Saphan Taksin station.
