Sultanahmet Meshur Halk Koftecisi

The atmosphere of Sultanahmet Meshur Halk Koftecisi reminded me a bit of the Second Avenue Deli in New York -- waiters dressed in starched white shirts and long white aprons move briskly and efficiently about a long aisle of cafeteria-style tables filled with locals grabbing a quick bite. Only Sultanahmet Meshur Halk Koftecisi is a lot cleaner than Second Avenue Deli, and the service is even faster. The bustling restaurant is famous for its specialty - kofteci, which are yummy fried meatball-y/sausagey-type things made of lamb and other meats and served with little green peppers. With the exception of white bean salad (which was very good), there is little else on the menu. Turks crowd the place at lunchtime and are served their meals in record time. According to a Turkish friend who brought us here, the restaurant enjoys a steady following of locals, and we could easily see why.
