Best Chinese Buffet in the City!

My family is on a budget but that being said we do know good food and what is substandard. Our visit to Jade Garden was fantastic!

The soups (choice of 3) were good and not overly spiced. The vegetarian section had a selection of 12 dishes and according to my wife (the vegetarian) was made from fresh produce, quite tasty, and well stocked. I am the meat-eater and seafood eater in the family and I was not disappointed, there was a vast array of seafood; the butter and garlic shirmp in their shells were wonderful, and breaded, sauteed, and roasted meats. My favorite is the roast chicken and pork. For traditionalists in American-style chinese food there is also quite a selection, my children and brother and his wife were well satisfied with their meals. And oh yes, there was sushi and it was good.

The staff were polite though untalkative and the buffet area was readily restocked with fresh portions.

I highly recommend this buffet restaurant in the heart of Montreal's chinatown. I know my family and I will be going back.

Worst Buffet Ever, Never Going Back

I had all the good things about Jade Garden but I have to say my experience was like a nightmare. Even after paying 15.60 (tax inclusive) I felt I didn't get my moneys worth. The food was not replenished and the noodles looked stale. Even the veggie section was not great. I thought I will have my fill with the sweet dishes but it was bad. I am never going back to this restaurant again!

Jardin de Jade (The Jade Garden)

This Chinese restaurant is in the centre of Chinatown and is one of the biggest restaurants there. It has a red frontage to it and is easy to find. The restaurant specialised in Cantonese, Dim Sum and Szechuan cuisine. Every day there is a buffet and this ranges in prices depending on when you visit. I went between 12pm and 2pm and it cost me $8.75 (inc of tax) for the buffet. The buffet is vast and there is a range of dishes, such as seafood, pork/beef/chicken, dim sum, noodles, rice, a vegetarian selection, pizza (yeah not exactly Chinese), salad and a range of sweets.

The restaurant is very, very busy especially on Saturdays when the food is freshest. Waitresses seat you and then it is up to you how long you spend browsing the dishes. Water is replenished on your table frequently. I sampled a lot of the tofu dishes, lotus dishes, buddist delight, corn soup and noodles. For dessert there was fresh melon, donuts, ice cream and jellies, which of course I had to sample. The food is not the highest standard of Chinese, not that I have had, but for the price it is brilliant. Also you have such a wide selection of dishes to choose from. Children are also welcomed and I watched with glee as some small Chinese kids had a competition to get the most ice cream on their plates.
