De Beiaardier is on Bruges' main square and is a tiny little place slotted in amongst the larger neon-lit restaurants. What attracted us to the place, apart from its size, was the lack of hustler trying to drag us in. Once inside, the restaurant has a warming fire and candlelit tables. The menu isn't vast but does come in four languages and includes four types of soup for starter -- I can recommend the vegetable soup, which comes in a large tureen full of flavoursome soup stuffed with vegetables! Then there is steak, fish, chicken, and numerous types of pasta, as well as the local dish -- Flemish beefstew -- which we sampled on our first visit; it comes with a huge bowl of fries and a salad garnish and was wonderfully tasty. The second night we had spaghetti bolognese which not only came in a huge portion but was very tasty. The young lady working there was very hospitable and chatted with us, in English, about our trip; she also chatted with several other customers in a variety of languages.
This restaurant has a good bar and great food -- what more could you need?
