Description: Tanpopo offers all-you-can-eat Japanse food (i.e. sushi, sashimi, maki, teriayaki, gyoza and all the rest) everyday from about 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On weekdays, this feast rings in at a grand total of $10.95 per person; on Saturdays, the price skyrockets to a whopping $11.95. Anyone who's ever paid for sushi, will understand the incredible value this represents. If you automatically assume the service is slow, the location is terrible and the staff leery of aggressive eaters, think again. The food is delivered to your table on command, with nary an eyebrow raised by the waitress when, after you've ordered every menu item TWICE, she starts to think you might actually slather the table with wasabi and eat that too. The restaurant also boasts a prime downtown location -- a hop, skip and jump, jog, walk or rollerblade from the start of the Seawall. On a sunny day, the best place to sit is outside on the rooftop patio. From there, you can glimpse the ocean and watch the human parade on Denman Street.
One suggestion though: go to Tanpopo with an empty stomach, a loosened belt and a nice horizontal space (perhaps on the nearby beach) already picked out. You might need it for the rest of the day.
