Toriyanse is located off the main Nakamise shopping street near the Kanon Temple in Asakusa district. Just turn left into the main wing of the shopping arcade as you're heading towards the temple. You will notice it on your left: wooden entrance with a blue cloth over the door.
This is your typical Tokyo ramen place. Quick, cheap and pleasant. The owner doesn't speak much English, but that didn't prove much of a problem because I didn't speak much Japanese either! We both learned sign language pronto fast.
On the menu: ramen, ramen and more ramen. Ask for butaniku: pork, it's extra, finger-licking good! There are many other ramen selections on the menu, except gyuniku: beef (pity... that was just what I wanted). You can get tea, juice or beer to wash down the noodles. I'd go for the beer: tea gets old quickly in Japan.
The owner is quite a friendly guy: even without good means of communicating we managed to hold a conversation for half an hour. Since I visited here during April, there were sakura: cherry blossoms decorating the restaurant, adding to the charming atmosphere.
So if you're in the neighbourhood visiting the Kanon Temple, or souvenir shopping at Nakamise, stop here for a bowl of noodles.
