If you are looking for the best pizza place in New York, please, looking no further. Grimaldi’s Pizzeria (www.grimaldis.com/brooklyn.htm) located under the Brooklyn Bridge in Brooklyn is amazing. No matter what time of day you get there, you will be waiting on line. While on line, the owner will walk by and ask how many you are, trying to see if he can squeeze in a couple here or there. I would suggest going with no more the four people because larger tables are harder to come by and you will wait longer. Also, bring cash with you because they accept nothing but it and there really aren’t ATM’s around.

When you finally enter this small restaurant, the seats are so close you end up dining with your neighbors and everyone becomes friends. You can’t order slices here, so come hungry. The pies are cooked right behind you in a giant wood burning stove and everything about the pizza is phenomenal. The taste in indescribable and unsurpassed by anything that you may have ever had. The cost of a pie is around $12 but can go up depending on your topping selection. The pies are out in a matter of minutes, unless they are cleaning the oven, which means you could be waiting for up to 20 minutes. But have no fear, it is worth the wait.

Afterwards, you have the Brooklyn Bridge to help walk off some of that food and some great views deboot. Enjoy and please try to make this place a stop on your Brooklyn adventures, its amazing!

This place is advertised in social circles as some of the best pizza in the city. I personally disagree, but it was good. Simply it was just too burnt. And the company was great. I do, however, like the location in Hoboken better.

Snuggled in a small building under the Brooklyn Bridge with your typical checker covered tables this is a nice place. You walk in and order your pie, as they do not sell single slices, get a seat and wait. I do recommend it for everyone to try once especially if you think what they make in Chicago is real pizza. But I feel it’s a onetime visit only place since you can find better around the city. On a good note our pie was not very greasy and this was a very welcome surprise. The three of us enjoyed our lunch but all generally felt the same about it.

They are open 11:30am to 10:45pm most days. Not until noon on Saturday and to 11:45pm Friday and Saturday nights.

Grimaldi's Pizza is located right off the water, near a cute pier with views of the East River, lower Manhattan, and the Brooklyn Bridge. To get there, you can walk the Brooklyn Bridge, take the A train to High Street, the F train to York Street, or the water taxi to the Fulton Landing stop. When getting off the A train, walk down Cadman Plaza toward the water until you see Grimaldi's big green awning on the right side of Old Fulton Street. From the F train, walk down to the water until Front Street, take a left and walk until you get to Old Fulton Street, take a right, and you'll immediately see the restaurant. From the pier, walk inland half a block.

The restaurant looks like a typical Italian-American pizzeria. The tables are small and mashed together to get in as many customers as possible. The tables are covered with red and white checkered tablecloths, and the pizza-throwers take up the back wall along with the pizza ovens. The sidewalls are wood-paneled and are topped with photos of famous people who frequent the place, as well as pictures of their favorite crooners from Italy.

Sodas come in 16-ounce bottles, and the pizza covers most of the table. The waiters are polite, but definitely no-nonsense. As for the pizza, you'll find the crust is thin and crispy, yet chewy (much like that of other old pizzerias in Manhattan). The sauce is incredibly fresh and tastes of sweetly ripened tomatoes. On top of the sauce are slices of fresh baby mozzarella that melt much nicer than the usual cheap mozzarella you'd find at typical pizzerias. Toppings are $2 and are the same price on half a pie as on a whole one. They include pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, garlic, anchovies, capers, etc. I've tried the calzone once, and although I loved it, crispy crust enveloping a mountain of ricotta and spinach, I would still recommend going for the pizza if you're only going there once. Desserts include the traditional cannoli; however, I tend to stroll over to the pier after a meal here and go to the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory.

Because the pizza is one of the best in the area, there is often a long line. Try to come in the winter and during off hours. Coming Sunday before it opens is a guaranteed way to get seated. If not, be prepared to stand outside until it's your turn. If you're okay with take-out, order and take the pizza to the pier across the street and eat it outdoors. In the summer, this is what a lot of people tend to do. Also note that this restaurant is CASH ONLY and that strollers are NOT allowed indoors due to lack of space.

Frank Sinatra used to eat here.

How much more do you need to know about a pizzeria in New York?

At Grimaldi's, photos of the rich and famous line the walls, Frankie Blue Eyes plays from the jukebox and red and white checkered tablecloths are usually covered by a steaming thin-crust, brick oven pizza. Calzones stuffed with ricotta and seasoned sausage and pizza with fresh mozzarella, ricotta and eggplant are especially delicious.

After dinner, take a stroll down one block to Water Street. The River Cafe, Brooklyn Bridge and view of the Manhattan skyline is amazing.

Grimaldi's is a must for any New Yorker.

Not quite as amazing as Totonno's out in Coney Island, Grimaldi's Pizzeria offers the best pie you can get without traveling far. Formerly known as Patsy's, this pizzeria that hides underneath the Brooklyn Bridge is not to be confused with the subpar Patsy's that now operates in Manhattan. Grimaldi's is the real deal, with hearty sauce and authentic mozzarella cheese. The crowds waiting to get in can be big, but they keep the line moving pretty quick.
