Don’t be fooled by the exterior and slightly sketchy neighborhood, as locals are known to line up around the corner, anticipating such dishes as lamb shanks, calamari genovese and osso bucco while they wait.

Order from the chalkboard menu or ask for the unlisted, tasty white pizza. The shabby decor and gritty atmosphere just adds to the flowing wine, large portions and a sense that one is dining at the spot in town.

Again, you’re forewarned: The atmosphere at first take is truly shabby and the wait staff has an attitude. In fact, Chef Ed Vassio has been known to curse patrons that send his authentic Italian creations back to the kitchen. On a recent visit I could have sworn I heard him saying "Italians have eaten this dish for hundreds of years, and that table thinks I should change it."

However, this chef knows his stuff and is treated as a local celebrity on the streets of Richmond. In fact, every eatery Ed Vassio touches turns to gold, as he has two other operations routinely cranking out excellent meals as well.
