Bottom's Up is home to Richmond's fattest pizza pie--a deep-dish monstrosity that keeps them coming back for more. Here, you don't order a pizza... you order a slice (and trust me: one slice should do it for you!). They offer a number of specialty pizzas - the best among them are the barbecue chicken and the Meat Master. But the ultimate pie is one called the State Fair (which has caramelized onions, sausage, mozzarella and Gulden's mustard). $8 will get you a slice, a Coke and tip.
Bottom's Up reeks of atmosphere--nestled beneath the raised railroad trestle, and one of the few restaurants in America where you can wave to the conductor while quaffing a Legend brown ale on the deck. It can also reek in that bad way--when the smells of the storm drains and nearby sewage treatment plant waft towards the restaurant. It's never horrible, but just enough to give you flashbacks of downtown Boston.
One note: there's typically a long dinnertime wait on weekends (45 minutes to an hour). Though you can't make reservations, call them about 30 minutes beforehand to get your name added to the list.
