Huey's is a fun restaurant in downtown Memphis. They have great food and a great atmosphere. You can write on the walls and blow toothpicks in the ceiling. It is quite a sight to see!
Try their chicken and pineapple kabobs, they are wonderful.

Where else can you write on the walls, shoot toothpicks into the ceiling, and get the best burger in Memphis? I recommend the Huey Burger, with steak fries (or onion rings, the jumbo type). I've actually never had anything else off the menu! Huey's features live music some nights and has a full bar, but is family-friendly, with a nonsmoking area that is fine. The downtown Huey's is a great place to go pre- or post-event for the Redbirds, Tigers, or Grizzlies games or concerts.

If you ever come to Memphis, you have to visit Huey’s. It is a Memphis institution! If you don’t come for the food, then at least come for the décor; it is different. There is writing all over the walls and toothpicks all over the ceiling (they take them all down once a year to make way for new ones).

The food here is pretty good, though. The burgers are good-sized and cooked to order. I recommend the traditional Huey burger, as well as the West Coast Burger (cheeseburger with guacamole, onions, and more). The chicken pita is good, and if you are looking at going a little healthier, the Spinach Salad isn’t half bad.

The cheese fries are good, and there were many times that I ordered them as my main course. They are large enough for several to share for an appetizer or a carbo-loaded alternative to a burger. Fries don’t come with the meal, but I would suggest getting them; they are pretty good, and their onion rings are wonderful!

There is a full bar, and on weekends, they have live music at some of the locations.

Don’t forget to spit your toothpick on the ceiling; it’s a tradition! The best way to do it is to put the toothpick in the bottom of your straw and blow. Good luck!

We were starvin' like Marvin when we sat ourselves down in this bar and restaurant, so we were happy, with a capital H, when our burgers came out lickety split. And we ate them just as quickly.

Again, the location can't be beat for folks staying downtown-we walked here from our hotel. And what a pleasant surprise to find my favorite northern California beer, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, on tap. This turned out to be key because most of the other bars we were in this weekend would only ever get as exotic as Heineken. So now you know where to go if you require a heartier beer.

Our burgers were terrific, as promised. It also felt like a neighborhood place-a whole ream of college-aged people walked into the bar around 3pm and sat down for what was clearly an after-work drink. They all had on identical black slacks, blue aprons, and blue (I'm talking crayola blue) shirts. They were a coloful phalanx at the bar, that's for sure!

The whole bill came to $22, plus tip. Rock on!
