Don't be fooled by its mini-mall location-- Giovanni's Trattoria is a charming and romantic little restaurant, run by an Italian immigrant family. Lunch can be crowded with Sony studio employees, but there are usually candlelit tables to spare at dinnertime.
Each evening features several mouth-watering specials, but my consistent favorite is the Penne alla Vodka, served with the most exquisite creamy tomato sauce I've found in this dish. The grilled salmon is always excellent, served with roasted potatoes. Popular with the lunch crowd are Giovanni's pizzas, which come in an array of upscale varieties. Vegetarians should try the "Pizza Verdure," with grilled eggplant, zucchini, and mushrooms. Don't forget to start with an appetizer--the Bruschetta and the Caprese (buffalo mozzarella with tomato, basil, and greens) make a great combination.
Giovanni's does not serve alcohol, but for a romantic dinner bring your own bottle of wine (there is a $3 corkage fee). If you'd rather eat at home, Giovanni's will gladly pack a take-out meal. They have also recently joined the list of restaurants at quicktakeout.com, which will deliver the food to your home for a small fee, depending upon your location.
