Don't plan on eating a great meal here, it's merely standard overpriced cafe fare. The Quiche Lorraine (45F) and the Croque Monsieur(42F) are satisfying but pretty mediocre. After decades of the same sort of food, you'd think the Parisians would tire of overpaying for what they could get better almost anywhere else. But the terrace is so crowded that you nearly always have to wait for a table. Directly in the center of the 6th arrondissement, this is the perfect people-watching cafe and it is frequented because of it's location and it's history. I've read that Simone de Beauvoir came here everyday to write "The Second Sex" and she'd sit all day with only one coffee. It was said that the waiters all hated her. Every time I visit I get the same exciting feeling. As I am sitting at a small cafe seat, crowded next to a chain smoking Parisian, drinking my cafe noir, watching the sophisticated and hip Parisians walk by, I wait patiently for the slow, surly waiter to bring a menu. And I say to myself "This is it, this is the real Paris. And I will never get over how much I love it."
