Description: The Restaurante Beccofino is one of the few that Frommer’s mentions in the Ixtapa section of the Mexico 1999 guide. It certainly deserves mention. Like all of the restaurants we visited during the week, the prices are reasonable for resort areas, and in this case, the food is exceptional.
Situated at Marina Ixtapa, Beccofino is one of four adjoining restaurants that straddle the promenade between the business strip and the luxury watercraft in their berths. Each of these eateries has a seating area on the inland side of the walkway, and each also has an over-water dining area across the pavement. We arrived as the first customers for dinner (without reservations), and were ushered to the best table for two on the seaside patio. The service was excellent, the mahi-mahi in black butter sauce that Sue ordered was declared as the best dish she had eaten in quite some time.
I enjoyed a mixed seafood grill of shrimp, lobster and fish, all done to perfection. The key item for me, however, was dessert. Having acquired a taste for good flan a few years ago in Portugal, I ordered Beccofino’s version. It is without a doubt the best flan I have ever tasted! Try it. I would also point out that Beccofino, like most area restaurants, feature the Baja vinted wines of L.A. Cetto as value choices on the wine list. This evening we selected a Barbera that was quite enjoyable
