On the trains, nearest stops are: West India Quay if taking the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) or Jubilee Line if taking the Underground tube.
West India Quay, located in the Isle of Dogs, East London, is slowly becoming 'the place to be', an alternative to the West End. Not as crowded as the West End, but much cleaner and more breathable, with beautiful views of the basin/canal and the River Thames.
In the height of summer, one can dine al fresco. However, there are plenty of seats inside the restaurant. Essentially serving tapas food, and lovely sangria in an earthenware jug. Neat wooden tables and chairs, some benches covered with comfy cushions. Always a lighted candle on a wine bottle (as a candlestick stand). Very cosy.
Food is fabulous, service is reasonably good (sometimes exceptionally so). Service comprises the speed of food arriving at the table (approx. 15 min. wait is good), the accuracy of dishes ordered, and professionalism of staff. I have recommended this place to lots of friends and have personally introduced friends to La Tasca.
A small bowl of olives, some bread, eight dishes of tapas for four people - reasonably small serving for each dish - and a pitcher of sangria, comes up to approx. £12 per person, including 10% tips.
